WELLESLEY HILLS, Mass. — August 31, 2009— Apparent Networks, a leading provider of network fault and performance management solutions, today announced Version 2 of its popular PathView tool for network performance management. The new release extends PathView’s unique, path-based performance management capabilities into virtual environments to improve the reliability and quality of virtual service delivery. Version 2 also includes support for PathView Report Server, a module with next-generation reporting capabilities that were jointly developed with leading PathView customers.
PathView’s patented technology troubleshoots network performance problems, monitors service levels, assesses network readiness for new applications, and reports on service delivery. PathView tools provide comprehensive views into physical and virtual infrastructures and their associated service levels. They give IT teams a complete picture of the health of their end-to-end networks including virtual machines.
“Path management for virtual service delivery is the hottest growth area of our business today,” said Jim Melvin, President and CMO of Apparent Networks. “Virtual service delivery offers tremendous value to our customers, but it also brings them several more layers of complexity. End-to-end network performance, including the virtual layers, is critical to next-generation data center success. Our path-based approach uniquely addresses the challenges of network performance management in virtual environments.”
“Virtualization is rapidly changing how enterprise IT is deployed and operated, and enabling exciting new system design alternatives such as virtual appliances,” said Peter Christy, principal analyst at the Internet Research Group. “But virtualization doesn’t diminish the need for careful performance monitoring – if anything it increases it. The ability to include all virtual and physical devices in your application delivery ‘line of sight’ is essential for effective management of network performance and service delivery.”
PathView Version 2
The primary new features in PathView Version 2 enable better, more thorough management of virtual service delivery. PathView enables this by extending its patented packet train dispersion analysis into virtual environments, specifically the virtual TCP/IP stack. This gives IT teams the visibility they need to see, measure and understand the performance characteristics of the virtual machines over which their application traffic passes. Version 2 can also be hosted on a virtual machine providing visibility from within that machine out to any client device. This also increases deployment flexibility.
PathView Report Server
PathView Report Server is a new product that works in conjunction with PathView. It extends PathView’s built-in reporting with features that make it easy for any staff member to customize and brand reports, and automate their generation and distribution. Report Server leverages PathView’s unique network path performance information to create reports that communicate IT’s value – powerfully and persuasively – to executive, business and technical audiences.
Pricing, Availability and Introductory Offers
PathView Version 2 will be available by mid-September. Pricing starts at $1,995. For a limited time, Apparent Networks is offering customers a free, 30-day fully functional trial version of PathView Version 2. More information on these offers is available at www.ApparentTools.com.
